about Damien
Damien Paul Dong (he/they) is a Boston-based, Asian-American artist who, after nearly two decades of developing parallel careers in technology and the arts, pivoted to explore the intersection of the two. He is a seasoned project manager, engineer, entrepreneur, and consultant with experience leading teams to deliver results in a range of environments, from early-stage startups, through global market leaders, to non-profit organizations.
In his career by day, Damien helped organizations reach their potential through technology and process innovation. He advised Fortune 500 clients as a tech consultant at Deloitte, developed one of the first online video platforms at YouAre.TV, worked on early cloud communications tech at Thinking Phones, and managed global software projects for science conglomerate, Merck KGaA. By night, Damien worked in Boston’s arts and entertainment industry, as an event producer, DJ, art designer, and talent buyer for notable venues and festivals. His work after dark earned the attention of media including Boston 25 News, the Boston Globe, and the Boston Herald, with the critical acclaim of a “Best of Boston” award from Boston Magazine and a “Top 100 Clubs” award by the global industry publication DJ Mag.
After his change in direction, Damien went on to co-found Cicada, a venue development startup funded by a Grubhub executive, designing a next-generation performing arts center in downtown Boston, until the COVID-19 shutdowns. Post-pandemic, Damien volunteered as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of Artisans Asylum, a non-profit community maker space that provides an inclusive refuge for artists from all walks of life to learn, to make, and to teach. He stepped down from the Board to serve as the organization’s Interim Executive Director for a six-month engagement. Damien currently works part-time as a booking manager and talent buyer at the historic Boston-area nightclub, The Middle East.
In his creative practice, Damien builds immersive and interactive art experiences by incorporating emerging, technology-forward mediums into his work. His art has been featured throughout the Northeast at festivals, concert stages, museums, community events, and in permanent architectural installations.
